Dodgeball Victoria Cup | How It Works

The Dodgeball Victoria Cup is a knockout-style competition, making its debut in the 2017 season. The DV Cup will feature a Men’s and Mixed Division.

Clubs will be randomly drawn each round, with the winning team progressing to the next round.

The top-two Victorian Clubs (Grand Finalists) will gain qualification into the DFA Cup, the national version of the Cup competition, taking on the qualifiers from the Dodgeball NSW Cup. The DFA Cup will be held on Saturday, December 2 – a day prior to the ADPL National Finals Series.

Pending of the structure of the NSW Conference, the DFA Cup may feature just the Mixed Division in its first year. Further details will follow in due course.

Nine Clubs will feature in each division of the DV Cup.

PRIZES ON OFFER (Men’s & Mixed Divisions):

• Winners | $250 Prize Money, Cup Trophy & Medallions

• Runners-Up | Free set of ADPL Dodgeballs (valued at $100), Medallions

If a Club manages to do the double (win both the Men’s and Mixed Divisions), they will be rewarded with a prize pool of $600.

MEN’S / MIXED DV CUP STRUCTURE

ADPL Clubs will be drawn at random each round, with the winners’ subsequently progressing to the following round. Each tie will feature a two-match series, played on the same date. If the series is drawn at 1 – 1, an overtime set will be played to determine who progresses to the next round.

The draw will take place 2 – 3 weeks prior to each round.

Men’s Division:

Round 1 – Friday, April 28 | Preston Panthers and Skye Rainbows will be excluded from the Round 1 draw of the Men’s Division, given their opening round match-up in the Mixed Division. Therefore, two Clubs will be randomly drawn, with the winner subsequently progressing to Round 2 (Final 8).

Round 2 – Friday, June 9 | 8 Clubs

Round 3 – Friday, July 21 | 4 Clubs

From the Semi Final stage onwards, Clubs will not be allowed to use fill-ins players.

Round 4 – Friday, September 1 | 2 Clubs

Mixed Division:

Round 1 – Friday, April 28 | With an odd number of teams (9), the top 7 Clubs from the 2016 ADPL (Mixed) season will be seeded and gain automatic entry into Round 2. Meaning, the newly established Preston Panthers and Skye Rainbows will play-off in Round 1.

Round 2 – Friday, June 9 | 8 Clubs

Round 3 – Friday, July 21 | 4 Clubs

From the Semi Final stage onwards, Clubs will not be allowed to use fill-ins players.

Round 4 – Friday, September 1 | 2 Clubs

Women’s Division:

The Women’s Division will slightly alter, with the entire DV Cup staged on the single night – Friday, August 4.

Teams will be drawn at random each round, with the winner progressing to the next round. Unlike the Men’s and Mixed Divisions, each round will be a one-match tie in the Women’s Division.

With 9 Clubs in the draw, numbers 8 & 9 will be randomly drawn, and will play-off on Saturday, July 8 (during Round 2 of the Women’s ADPL). The winning Club will progress to the final 8 on Friday, August 4.

ADPL Women’s Division To Launch In 2017

The Australian Dodgeball Premier League is excited to announce the inclusion of a Women’s Division for the 2017 ADPL Victorian Conference.

Each of the nine ADPL Clubs will have the opportunity to participate in the Women’s Division, with alterations being made to the format and regulations of the competition.

Key Points:

  • The Women’s Division will launch Saturday, July 8.
  • Open Friendlies night for all women will be held on Friday, May 26.
  • Maximum of 5 players on court, at any given time.
  • The season will feature 4 rounds (2 matches per round), in addition to a Finals Series.
  • Rounds will be hosted every 6 – 8 weeks, on average.
  • Women’s round-fee will be discounted to $100 per Club.
  • Women’s rounds will be played on a different date to the Men’s / Mixed Division.
  • If a Club is short on numbers for a particular round, they can gather:
    – Max of 1 fill-in player from another ADPL Club. AND / OR;
    – Fill-in players not from an existing ADPL Club.
Please note, fill-in players are prohibited during the Finals Series.
  • Club rosters can be extended to include additional female players in their squad.

The Women’s Division is another step forward in the development of Dodgeball Federation Australia’s high performance programs, and will further enhance the women’s game in Australia. With our Women’s Dodgeroos currently World and Asian champions, it gives us further motivation to reach for the stars.

It’s an exciting time for women’s dodgeball, with each ADPL Club having an authentic women’s team. Now, women will also also have the opportunity to play a trophy in the Victorian domestic season.

RECRUITMENT:

The competition is a great opportunity for Clubs to recruit additional female players, who may not be able to commit to a year-round season in the Mixed Division. It also gives new female players the opportunity to be introduced to the ADPL in a less-taxing environment.

If any Clubs require assistance in recruiting an additional player or two, please let us know.

DFA Cup Re-Branded For State Qualifiers

The DFA Cup is a new knockout-style competition set to make its debut in 2017. While the cup will play an exciting role in the 2017 season, we have decided to re-brand the competition in its state-based stages.

When the Cup competition begins in Victoria, it will be branded as the Dodgeball Victoria Cup, also known as the DV Cup. The top two ADPL Clubs (Grand Finalists), will gain qualification into the DFA Cup, the national version of the Cup competition.

With the impending launch of the ADPL New South Wales Conference in 2017, it will also have its own state-based cup competition, known as the Dodgeball NSW Cup, with the same format applying in NSW.

Victoria will have a Men’s and Mixed version of the DV Cup. Depending on the format of the Dodgeball NSW Cup, the national DFA Cup may only have a Mixed Division in its inaugural year.

The idea behind the DFA Cup is to have an authentic national knockout style cup competition, following the state-based qualification rounds. The DFA Cup will be staged a day prior to the ADPL National Finals Series, on the same weekend.

STATE-BASED KNOCKOUT ROUNDS:

In each state, all ADPL Clubs will be drawn at random each round, with the winners’ subsequently progressing to the following round.

Each tie will feature a two-match series, played on the same date. If the series is drawn at 1 – 1, an overtime set will be played to determine who progresses to the next round.

Each round of the Cup will be set on a different date, with the same rules and regulations from the ADPL applying in the Cup – including match and squad regulations.

The top two Clubs (Grand Finalists) from the DV Cup and Dodgeball NSW Cup respectively, will gain qualification into the DFA Cup, the national version of the Cup competition.

The purpose of this new format is to further enhance our high performance program, increase player growth, and make the game more inclusive for everyone, particularly our female players.

The Mixed Division will better serve our female dodgeballers, with a reduction of male players on the court. The objective behind this is to not only enhance female development by giving them more extensive roles on the court, but importantly to encourage more female involvement and create a deeper playing pool in the ADPL.

Women’s Dodgeroos coach Craig Payne is excited by the new concept.

‘I’m really looking forward to both the Mixed and Men’s divisions in 2017. Being the women’s coach, I think it’s going to be great for the development of our female players and is the next step we need to take. The new Mixed division will be more inclusive for women, which is what we want. Our aim to get a greater number of women involved.’ – Craig Payne

The Men’s Division will see an enhancement in the playing standard, and create a more dynamic environment for male dodgeballers, giving them the best possible preparation for high performance and international dodgeball.

Men’s Dodgeroos coach Dillon Jesudhason believes the ADPL will benefit from these modifications.

‘If we want to be the best in the world, we need to be innovative and look for new ways to improve. The Men’s and Mixed ADPL divisions will be the best thing for the development of our male and female dodgeballers. We’re at a stage now where we need to build on our success with the ADPL and Dodgeroos. I can’t wait to get started’. – Dillon Jesudhason

Following our inaugural season, we anticipate player growth for the 2017 season. The objective is to see an increase of 25% – 30% in player registrations.

With a new, authentic Club format being adopted, it’s an exciting time for the ADPL. We’re now taking the next step in professionalism, and giving Club’s the opportunity to expand their squads, encourage new players to get involved, and importantly build a unique culture within their Club.

DFA Sydney Open | Review

Dodgeball Federation Australia was pleased to host the DFA Sydney Open on Saturday, December 10 at Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre.

The DFA Sydney Open was the first official event coordinated by the DFA in New South Wales, introducing the Australian Dodgeball Premier League (ADPL) regulations. The regulations followed, are adopted from the official World Dodgeball Association (WDA) international rules, used earlier this year at the 2016 World Cup in Manchester.

Through this event, NSW dodgeballers were also given the opportunity to trial for the Australian Dodgeroos national team, in the hope of being selected for the Dodgeroos Training Squad, set to be announced on December 22, 2016.

The event was a great success, with Micklyrics And The Funky Bunch taking home the honours, prevailing 6 – 4 in a hard-fought Grand Final over Dodge Pty Ltd.

Well done to all the players and teams who took part in the event. Your determination, and all-round fun nature was fantastic to see.

A special shout-out to Zany Sports for helping us coordinate the event, it’s much appreciated.
